Japan's Emperors and Empresses
From Richard Tames' "A Traveller's History of Japan", pp 239-41

Reign dates for the first twenty-eight sovereigns are taken from the Niho shoki (Chronicles of Japan). The first fourteen sovereigns are considered legendary; and while the next fourteen are known to have existed, their exact reign dates have not been verified historically. When the years of actual accession and formal coronation are different, the latter is shown in brackets after the former. If only the coronation year is known it is in brackets. Antoku's reign (1180-85) overlaps that of Go-Toba since the latter was placed on the throne by the Minamoto clan after the rival Taira clan had fled Kyoto with Antoku.
